Platinum Jubilee Party - Saturday 4th June - how did it go?

The weather was kind and proceedings started at 3pm with a fete on the cricket ground with outdoor games, races and competitions for all the family. This was followed by a BBQ in the afternoon and live music until late in the evening.

130 tickets for the barbeque were quickly sold but many others made their own arrangements and swelled the numbers.

We had splat the rat, hook a duck, welly wanging, giant jenga and skittles, wheelbarrow races, egg and spoon races and sack races and a children’s fancy dress competition dressing up in red, white and blue to impress our Penallt ‘Show Queen’, panto star Geraint Thomas, resplendent in pink! She was later seen joining in with the children’s welly wanging …

We also had cream teas in aid of the Old Church, a marquee, lots of bunting, classic cars and loads of sweets for the children as well as Jubilee Mugs (yet to be presented!).

Celebrations didn’t stop just there but carried on well into the night with music from Vanity Trap. And, no resting on laurels for Geraint either as, equally resplendent this time in red, he returned as Penallt’s own Dame Burley Shassey before her debut performance in the evening, where she sang live (no lip syncing here) Goldfinger and Hey Big Spender as a taster of more great singing to come later in the year!

This didn’t all happen by chance, so a huge vote of thanks must go to Amy Jenkins and her fantastic committee, plus all the volunteers on the day and beforehand. They did the Queen proud!
