Art in Penallt 2022
Stevie Coutts writes:
It is over for another year and once again, it has exceeded expectations with more visitors than ever - about 1,400. We are so grateful to everyone who supported us and who helped the weekend to run smoothly, those who controlled traffic, who manned the entrance desk, who moved furniture and packed and unpacked trailers. Penallt is a very special village which has a huge sense of community, a generous spirit and a willingness to get involved.
Art in Penallt is a not-for-profit organisation, the organisers are all volunteers and all proceeds (once expenses are paid) go to charity. This year we are supporting Bridges Centre/Social Circles, Monmouth & District Food Bank & St John Ambulance and we expect to make generous donations once the numbers have all been crunched. Last year we were able to give away £4,000, making total donations over the years of £14,000.
Our primary aim is to showcase the amazing talent of the artistic and creative community, to allow everyone to appreciate their work and maybe to expand horizons and to encourage participation. This year the exhibition was curated by Andrea Davis, assisted by Antonia Pearson & Lisa O’Neill. The painting workshop run by Alex Brown was sold out, the six demonstrations of a variety of art forms were well supported with most of the work produced being donated for auction.
We are grateful to Tim, Sarah & Rachael at Humble by Nature for their help, to Jake & Jess at the Pig & Apple for housing the student exhibition over the summer and catering for the weekend, to St John Ambulance for being in attendance over the 3 days, to Bronwyn at The Bush for opening the pub for us & our volunteers on Monday evening and to everyone who attended.
Finally, a huge thank you to Ann Bradley who has retired after curating Art in Penallt for 8 years. Ann has brought her administrative talents and her love of art to the role and has created a seamless process for our artists from application to exhibit to collection of unsold work, taking infinite and sensitive care throughout the process.
