THE HOLDOVERS [15] 133 mins – Comedy/Drama
rescheduled from Friday 14th June
With no family and nowhere to go over the Christmas holidays in 1970, unpopular classics teacher Paul Hunham (Giamatti) is stuck at school to supervise Angus, a bright teenager whose bad behaviour always threatens to get him expelled.
Joining Paul and Angus is head cook Mary - an African American woman whose own son was recently lost in Vietnam. These three shipwrecked people form an unlikely Christmas family, sharing comic misadventures during two very snowy weeks in New England.
Why see it? Nominated for five Oscars in 2024, Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Mary) winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress
“Paul Giamatti shines in Alexander Payne’s best film since Sideways and gives an awards-worthy performance as a teacher forced to look after pupils over the Christmas break in this terrific period piece” - The Telegraph (5 stars)
There will be an interval during the showing. Subtitles will be displayed too.
