Jack and the Beanstalk
After a lockdown extended break, Penallt Pantoland blasted off once again …. this time straight up a Beanstalk Jack made from some very magic beans.
Of course the story followed the traditions of Panto with Baddies being booed, Goodies being cheered and lots of scary moments designed to make us jump in our seats.
We naturally had a very serious love affair or two with the added complications provided by the usual knots, padlocks and threesomes? before the ultimate marriage!
This year‘s jokes were so well timed every single possible drop of laughter was squeezed out of the audience on each of the 4 performances.
The matinee had the added bonus of about 60 young children in the audience and at one time also on the stage!
The super sound and light effects lifted all the scenes … some to the very top of the Beanstalk.
And all the scenery and costumes, yet again, were just fantastic.
The cast was a mix of ‘oldsters’ and ‘newbies’ with many new stars appearing for the very first time in Penallt.
As always, the children grabbed the sweets and their stardom with both hands as did many of the grown-ups!
Special mention must go to Antonia for stepping in on the last night, with 10 minutes warning, to do a totally new role for her as Simon. (Caroline was taken ill suddenly, but she’s ok now 🤞).
Big congratulations must go to this year‘s Director Geraint. He played a major role so professionally (Dame of course) while pulling together this great show.
And also big thanks to the Producer, head of the workers, SDMT (super diligent multi-talented) Bob.
Pantos like this really only hit the boards so well as a result of the whole team doing loads of great work and supporting each other throughout with a BIG smile …. just like the audiences smile on their way home…. Oh yes they do!!
Can’t wait for next year.
Watch this space!
