Babington Easter Egg Hunt

Another fun time was had by the young children of Penallt who came to hunt for the Easter Eggs at Babington Meadow on Easter Sunday. All the children (and parents) searched for colour matching half eggs and matching numbers and then each child collected a Peter Rabbit Goody Bag. Some children also made colourful Easter pictures/cards for their grandparents to enjoy. The Raffle this year was child centred and not a full on chocolate hit. The climbing frame, and zip wire were very popular with the children and parents alike.

The amount raised from the Peter Rabbit Easter Egg Hunt was £97.52 which will go towards the annual maintenance costs (8 pathway cuts, 1 perimeter cut, 1 full Meadow cut, shrub pruning, and 1 hedge cut) and play equipment repair bills for 2023.

The annual maintenance costs are approximately £1350, and some years considerably more when items need to be replaced - in 2022 a bench was replaced following the annual Safety Report, and we have the need for 2 other benches to be replaced. Every year we need to offer at least 2 family events and events for a wider public to meet these expenses, and sadly we are currently struggling to meet these bills.

The Committee is now fewer in number due to some members having health/mobility issues and others with family or personal concerns. We are looking for volunteers on the Babington Meadow Committee and would welcome support from people who live in the village and who want to see The Meadow continue to be a facility for all to use.

There are currently 2 vacancies on the committee so please do get in touch if you are interested. Telephone Ros on 01600 715781 or Email: ros@qwestproperties.co.uk or call at Ty’r Wennol, Green Pastures, Penallt NP25 4SB. We meet when necessary, but contact is maintained mostly by email and telephone. Meetings are held at Ty’r Wennol, Green Pastures and are at a time to suit all those involved.

If you want to keep this attractive and fun facility for the village but do not have the time to spare for being on the committee, you may prefer to make a donation towards our annual maintenance costs. This should be either in cash to Ros at Ty’r Wennol, Green Pastures or by cheque made payable to Babington Meadow Recreation Ground Trust or directly to our account at Lloyds Bank Ltd in Monmouth.

Kind Regards

Ros Robertson - Treasurer Babington Meadow Recreation Ground Trust.
